Miamians Moving Up Within Council Of La Raza - The Miami Herald

Two Miami Cuban-Americans are moving up the national leadership ranks of the National Council of La Raza, one of the most influential Hispanic advocacy organizations in the United States.

Jorge Plasencia, CEO of the marketing firm República was named to the executive committee. Cesar Alvarez, CEO of the Greenberg Traurig law firm, joined the board of directors of the 40-year-old organization in June.

''I'm proud to represent Florida and Cuban Americans on the most important organization for Hispanics nationally,'' Plasencia said. ``Hispanic unity is growing stronger every year.''

NCLR, which refers to itself as ''the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States,'' works to advance Hispanic causes around the country
